Garden History

The Lynnwood Ogden Garden Community is a welcoming and inclusive community space where people of all skill levels can interact through gardening. It’s a space where people can connect with nature and understand where their food comes from while sharing knowledge with other likeminded gardeners.

The garden is located in the southwest corner of Lynnwood Park at the corner of 18th Street SE and 69th Avenue SE in Calgary Alberta, and has 42 raised beds which are available for rental, water taps and hoses for watering, a gazebo, picnic tables, and fruit trees.

LOGC was a community project started by passionate gardeners and community builders, Sean and Suzy Carney in 2021 after years of collaboration and planning. It operates through the Millican Ogden Community Association (MOCA), which is a charitable organization that largely relies on donations from community sponsors as well as grant funding.

LOGC is run by community volunteers. Learn more about volunteering with LOGC by becoming a ‘Friend of LOGC’ and contacting: volunteers@logc.ca

If you would like to make a financial donation to LOGC, please contact: generalmanager@millicanogden.com

The LOGC meets the 3rd Thursday of the month (April-October) at 7:00pm in the Lower Hall of MOCA (2110 69th Ave SE) or in the garden when weather permits. All gardeners and community members are welcome to join!

Key Reminders & Changes for 2026

Please take note of these important points:

🌱 Organic garden only

No herbicides, pesticides, or chemical fertilizers allowed.

🚫 No zucchini or squash varieties

Due to recurring mildew issues, these are not permitted this season.

🤝 Volunteer commitment

Each gardener must contribute at least 4 hours per season to shared garden upkeep.

LOGC Access and Etiquette

  • The garden is open daily from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM.

  • Gardeners must respect others and contribute to a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment.

  • Gardeners may only harvest produce from their own plot.

  • Children must be supervised at all times.

  • Pets must be on leash and all waste must be removed from the site.

  • Gardeners are responsible for their own tools and must clean and properly store any shared equipment after use.

  • Water must be turned off after use and hoses are properly stored.

  • Gardeners are encouraged to act as ambassadors by welcoming visitors and answering questions.

  • All weeds and plant waste must be removed from your plot and taken off-site.

  • Gardeners must bring their own compost or waste bags.

  • Plots must be actively maintained (planted, weeded, watered, harvested, and cleaned).

  • Any damage, safety concern, or vandalism must be reported promptly to: rentals@logc.ca

City of Calgary Compliance and Safety Requirements

To ensure compliance with City of Calgary Community Garden policies, all gardeners must adhere to the following:

Pest and Chemical Use

  • The use of herbicides, pesticides, insecticides, or chemical fertilizers is strictly prohibited.

  • In the case of severe pest issues, gardeners must report them to the garden committee.

Water Use

  • Only potable (safe drinking) water may be used to irrigate edible plants.

  • Gardeners must follow the City of Calgary Water Restrictions when in place.

Soil and Site Safety

  • All soil, compost, mulch, or materials brought on site must come from a clean, uncontaminated source.

  • Soil Maintenance: Each gardener is responsible for maintaining and enriching their soil. LOGC is now entering its 4th year, which is typically when soil quality starts to decline if not actively maintained. The Garden Committee cannot guarantee soil quality, especially for new gardeners.

  • If any signs of contamination are observed (e.g., odours, discolouration, debris), gardening must stop immediately and be reported to the Garden Committee (rentals@logc.ca)

Tips to keep your soil healthy:

  • Add compost

  • Use organic fertilizers

  • Mulch to retain moisture and improve soil structure

  • Rotate crops if possible

  • Avoid over-planting (which depletes nutrients faster)

Investing in your soil will make a big difference in your harvest! For more details, please review the 2026 Community Garden Agreement and Guidelines.
