Jack Setters Arena is one of Calgary’s most beloved arenas. Named after Calgary’s “Mr. Hockey”, the arena known as “JAC” boasts some of the best, most consistent ice at some of the best prices in the city. For 2025, the last day of ice bookings is March 29, while ice will be available again on August 25.

Who was Jack Setters?

Jack Setters dedicated his life to the game of hockey. He founded and developed the Minor Hockey Association of Calgary into one of the nation’s top programs. Recognized by nearly every minor hockey player in the city, Jack was deeply involved in all aspects of the program.

He was named Calgary Booster Club Sportsperson of the Year in 1972.

A geophysicist with Calgary-based Hudson Bay Oil and Gas, Jack even used his company’s resources to help schedule over 2,500 minor hockey games each winter. Beyond hockey, Jack revived local fastball, Little League baseball, and golf programs. As an athlete, he excelled in hockey, football, track, and golf throughout his youth and university years. Jack was an avid golfer, organizing the Junior Golf program at Earl Grey Golf Club with his wife, Joyce. Jack Setters passed away at his home in 2004.
